G. Ellen Meyer

G. Ellen Meyer, 98, passed away on September 7, 2023. She was born on June 16, 1925, in Rockford, Illinois daughter to Theodore and Gladys (Jones) Roland. On September 28, 1947, she married the love of her life, Eugene S. Meyer and they shared 57 years of marriage before his passing in September of 2004. Ellen worked for over 30 years as a beautician in her home until her retirement. Once she and Eugene retired, they enjoyed many winters in Texas, Florida, and Arizona. Ellen was also an avid needle point cross stitcher and made sure every child and great grandchild had their own Christmas stocking. The family will cherish fond memories of Ellen (GeeGee) rocking and singing to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She will be missed by those who loved her most, her children Theodore Meyer, Janeen Ritter and Scott (Lisa) Meyer, as well as daughter-in-law Lydia Meyer; her grandchildren Tadd (Anna) Gibson, Troy (Kelly) Gibson, Lindsay (Michael) Mayfield, Laura Meyer, Gregory (Fiancé Christine Bagtas), Lesley (Josh) Wallace, Nathan (Sarah) Meyer, Nicholas (Marissa) Meyer, and Noah (Becki) Meyer, Danielle Ritter, Jacob (Erika) Ritter, Bethany Ritter-Blomquist, Ross (Jennifer) Brezinka, Robert (Jessica) Brezinka; 27 great grandchildren and one on the way; brother in law Walter Hultgren. She is predeceased by her husband, Eugene; her children Penny Gibson and Thomas Meyer; siblings Donald Roland and Lois Hultgren.

A visitation will take place on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, from 3:30 p.m. until the time of memorial service, 5:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108.
