Genevieve Barabasz

Genevieve L. Barabasz, 76 of Belvidere died Monday, June 10, 2013 in her home. Born June 28, 1936 in Chicago the daughter of Oliver and Barbara Gillis. Married her loving husband Robert Barabasz on May 4, 1957 at St. Boniface in Chicago. Worked for Oak Park and Athens Fur Company, retiring in 1994. Survivors include her husband, Robert of Belvidere; children, Robert B. Barabasz of Aurora, Kathleen K. (Vincent) Scotellaro of Belvidere and Jeffrey S. (Laurie) Barabasz of Rockford; 8 grandchildren, Robert, Samantha, Ryan, Anthony, Kelly, Michelle, Jason and Matthew and one great granddaughter, Ava. Preceded in death by her parents and brother, Oliver Gillis Jr. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to Heartland Hospice and to her home health care nurse, Vickie. Funeral Mass Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 535 Caswell St. Belvidere. Visitation Sunday, June 16 from 2-5 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a rosary to be recited at 5 p.m. Visitation continues on Monday in the funeral home from 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. Inurnment will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery following the Mass. in lieu of flowers memorials in her name to the American Cancer Society.
