Genevieve M. 'Jean' Szeluga

Genevieve "Jean" M. Olson-Szeluga, 88, of Rockford, died on Monday, April 7, 2014 in Presence Cor Mariae Center after a long illness. Born May 21, 1925 in Cudahy, WI; daughter of Victor and Noulia (LeDuc) Olson. Married Leonard J. Szeluga in St. James Church, Rockford, on October 9, 1948, he predeceased her on September 13, 2003. Graduate of Muldoon High School. She enjoyed performing in several musical productions. Was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and an important member of the choir. Jean also owned the Coronado Sweet Shop. She generously donated to several charities.
Survivors include her children, Craig Szeluga, Andrea Gipson, John Szeluga and Amy Cardarelli; grandchildren, Nicole & Joshua Gipson, Sherrie Manning, Savannah Winthrow, Jake, Troy and Evan Szeluga, Andrew and Addison Cardarelli; great-grandchildren, Annalia, Phoenix and Lexor Manning, Sophia and Emma Winthrow; brothers, Robert, Victor, Jack and Raymond Olson. Predeceased by parents; several brothers and sisters. The family would like to give a special thanks to Pat Olson for always being there for us and Presence Cor Marie.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am on Friday, April 11, 2014 at St. Rita Catholic Church with Father John Evans officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of Mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
