George A. Johnson, 70, Rockford, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015, in SwedishAmerican Hospital. He was born September 9, 1944, in Barron, Wisconsin, the son of Martin and Laurella (Larson) Johnson. George was an Army veteran. He worked as a machinist in Rockford. George was an avid daily reader of news and periodicals with special interest in ancient history. He loved fishing and world travel.
Survived by his life partner, Carol Wilson; his children, Brian Bennett, Jody Murphy, Sandy (Jim) Woodard, Shelly Bewley, and David (Dana) Corey; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brothers, Larry Johnson and Lyle (Linda) Johnson; his sisters, Hazel (Jerry) Bradford and Joyce Ball; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by his parents, his brother, Arthur; and his wife, Debbie. Heartfelt thanks are extended to the nurses at SAH Critical Care and the SAH Regional Cancer Center.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Salem Lutheran Church, 1629 S. Sixth St. with Reverend William Dahlberg officiating. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. on Sunday at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Natural Land Institute (protecting the Kishwaukee, Pecatonica, Rock, and Sugar Rivers since 1958), Salem Lutheran Church, or Noah's Ark.
