George C. Vestal, 81, of Rockford, passed away at home on September 11, 2022. He was born August 24, 1941, in Rockford, Illinois, to Raymond H and Lydia (Rathke) Vestal., He married Anne Mayfield on August 14, 1976, in Rockford. He was employed by RMTD as a driver operator for over 20 years. He was a member of Life Church in Roscoe. He lived with Parkinson’s disease for almost 30 years, participating in Pedaling 4 Parkinson’s at the Roscoe YMCA and Knock Out Parkinson’s Boxing. He always had a positive attitude and a good joke to tell. He was an inspiration to others. His legacy was helping people, as he was always wanting to help someone in need. “I See You”
He is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Anne; sister, Marie Colehour; nieces, Diana (James) Baker, Cheri (Adam) Poage, and Kelli (Steve) Sager; good friends, Candice and Don Keen; and sister-in-law, Wendy Mayfield. He is predeceased by his parents; mother-in-law, Marie Mayfield; and brothers-in-law, Morey Colehour and Stan Mayfield.
The family would like to give a special thanks to St. Croix Hospice, Dr. Dale Gray, and Dr. Mohammed Afzal for the care given to George.
A Celebration of life will be on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at 3:00 PM, at Life Church, North Campus, 5910 Elevator Road, Roscoe, Illinois 61073. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pedaling 4 Parkinson’s at the Roscoe YMCA or Knock Out Parkinson’s Boxing, Knockoutparkinsonsinc.org.
