Gerald Dean "Jerry" Mattson

Gerald Dean "Jerry" Mattson, 72, Belvidere, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center. He was born May 24, 1941, in Ashland, WI, the son of Henry and Elsie (Johnson) Mattson. He was a 1959 graduate of Ondossagon High School and after graduation served in the Army from 1963 until 1965. Jerry married Sherry Ann Osterberg in Belvidere on June 24, 1967. He worked at Chrysler Corporation in Belvidere from 1965 until his retirement in 2001. Jerry was an avid Packer, Cubs, NASCAR, and University of Wisconsin Badgers fan. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, going to car shows, and just doing projects around his home and his children's homes.
Survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Sherry; his son Casey Mattson of Belvidere and his children, Justin and Trevor, his daughter, Candy (Charles Stone) Mattson of Rockford, and his son Craig (Stacey) Mattson and his children, Morgan and Vivienne of Scottsdale, AZ; his sister-in-law, Barbara Mattson of Minnesota; his brother-in-law, Laurie (Misty) Osterberg of Rockford, and his sister-in-law, Susan (Rockie) Mosier of Mansfield, OH; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, his infant twin sister, his Foster mother, Ellen Mattson, and his brother, Edward.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, December 4, 2013, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Reverend Greg Carlson officiating. Burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at the funeral home and from 10:00 am until time of service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established at a later date. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
