Gloria (Hernandez) Benner, 72, passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2025, leaving her family and friends heartbroken.
Born on February 26, 1953, to Nicolasa and Ricardo Hernandez, Gloria grew up with a deep love for family, laughter, and life’s simple joys. At just 15 years old, she met the love of her life, Larry Benner, and the two were married in 1969. They spent 43 wonderful years together, raising three children and showing them what true love looked like. Gloria and Larry were known for their deep affection and the unshakable bond they shared until his passing in 2011. In her later years, Gloria found companionship with Steve Hoar, sharing many happy moments together with family and friends over the past 10 years.
Gloria retired from Warner Lambert after years of dedicated work, where she not only built a strong career but also formed lifelong friendships that she deeply cherished.
Family was the heart of Gloria’s world and everyone knew it. She is survived by her children, Larry (Cindy) Benner, Jennifer (Justin) Cellitti, and Heather Benner; her beloved grandchildren, Larry (Tracy) Benner Jr., Jacob (Hailey Miculescu) Benner, Lucas Benner, Breanna Benner, Adriana Cellitti, Andrew Cellitti, Isaac Benner, Miracle Benner, and David Rodriguez; and her cherished great-grandchildren, Emma, Michael, and Ava Benner.
Known for her contagious laughter, quick wit, and joyful personality, Gloria was truly the life of every gathering. Whether she was turning up the music, singing along, or pulling others to the dance floor, Gloria had a way of drawing people in and filling every room with warmth and laughter. She loved spending summers at Crystal Lake Campground surrounded by family and friends, creating countless memories filled with fun, laughter, and love.
Affectionately known as “Aunt B” to her many nieces and nephews, Gloria’s warmth and humor touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She will be remembered for her vibrant spirit, unwavering love for her family, and the way she made everyone around her feel special.
Gloria’s legacy of love, laughter, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at St. James Catholic Church, 428 N. 2nd St. Rockford, IL 61107. Final resting place will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
