Gloria S. Overton

Gloria S. Overton, 72, of Rockford, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 16, 2016, surrounded by her loving family. Born January 11, 1944 in Osceola, Arkansas, the daughter of Glover W. & Mary (Summerville) Lewis. Married Ralph Overton, Sr, in Burdette, Ark. on June of 1961. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2011. Gloria was a Certified Nursing Assistant, where she was a caregiver to many. She was a devoted member of Northeast Christian Church and with the Senior Life group. She enjoyed playing bingo, but most of all she loved spending time with her 3 children, 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff OSF Hospice for their care and support.
Survivors include sons; Hollis (Eleanor) Overton and Ralph (Debra) Overton, Jr., daughter; Pat (James Morris) Overton. 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, brother; Joseph Lewis, sisters; Ella Sanders and Annie Taylor. Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Predeceased by parents, husband and siblings.
Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL 61108. Visitation from 10 a.m. until time of service.
