Harvey Richard O'Connor, 84, of Rockford passed away Saturday, January 22, 2011 in his home embracing Our Lord, surrounded by his family. He was born December 6, 1926, in Chicago, IL, son of Joseph and Josephine O'Connor. On May 18, 1957 he married his wife of 54 years, Audrey Hroma, in Chicago. He was employed by R.R. Donnelly and Sons as an Industrial Engineer, for many years. Harvey served in the U.S.Army during WWII, was a University of Illinois graduate and member of St. Mary Oratory. Harvey had a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and a great love for his Catholic Faith. His prayer was for the sanctity of his family and friends. His main focus was Christian charity and he extended this to all.Harvey is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey; eight devoted children, George O'Connor of Meridian, ID; Adriene (Gerald) Grzenia, of Lake in the Hills, IL; Daniel (Camille) O'Connor of Athol, ID; Colleen (Ken) Schroepfer of Pecatonica; Sister Mary Charbel of Browerville, MN; Shawn O'Connor of Sullivan, WI; Anne (John) Pfeiffer of Downers Grove, IL; Mary Beth (Patrick) Schwager of Wonder Lake, IL; 34 Grandchildren; brother, George "Rod" O'Connor of LaGrange Park, IL ; numerous nieces, nephews and godchildren. Predeceased by grandsons Beckett, Dominic, Matthew, Peter; parents; brothers and sisters: Joseph, Mary, John, Margaret, Anne, Veronica, Genevieve, Frank, Katherine, Vincent and Steve.Requiem Mass at 1:30pm, Friday, January 28, 2011, St. Mary Oratory with Reverend Matthew Talarico as celebrant. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 4pm until 8pm Thursday January 27, 2010, Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Rosary at 6:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Masses and Rockford Area Pregnancy Care Center (www.rapcc.org) The family wishes to express deepest gratitude to OSF Hospice for their tender loving care of Harvey.
