Helen V. Shoemaker

Helen Veronica Shoemaker, 91 of Rockford died peacefully on Friday, May 2 at Presence Cor Mariae Nursing Home. She was born November 22, 1922 the daughter of Vincent and Veronica Trusty. Grew up in the small town of Oelwein, IA graduating from Sacred Heart High School. During WWII Helen traveled to California and helped build aircrafts for the war, she was a real Rosie the Riveter. Married her loving husband Robert J. Shoemaker on August 2, 1947 in Rockford. An active member of Holy Family Catholic Church where she was a member of the funeral luncheon committee. Survivors include her sons, Terry and Rick Shoemaker of Rockford; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded by her parents, her husband in 2001; son, John Shoemaker; daughter, Julene Rungren; 4 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral Mass Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Visitation Tuesday, May 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday at church from 9:30 until time of prayer at 10:15 a.m. Interment will be held at Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
