Janice Elaine Scott, 88, of Rockford, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023.
Jan was born in Rockford, Illinois on September 25, 1935, the daughter of Ronald L. And Bernice G. (Hitchcox) Baldwin. She graduated from West High School, Class of 1953 and completed training to become a radiologic technologist. She later earned her associate degree from Rock Valley College and her bachelor's degree from the College of St. Francis. Jan was employed as a radiologic technologist by Woodward Governor, Rockford Clinic, and later in the mammography department at Swedish American Hospital. After retiring from Swedes, Jan became the building manager of Trinity Learning Center, further pursuing her love and passion for helping others, especially children. She was a longtime member of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Rockford. She enjoyed volunteering her time helping others organize functions and simply being there to lend a helping hand. Jan was an avid reader and loved following the news and current events. She also enjoyed her crossword puzzles and crypto quotes, mystery programs, and cheering on sports, especially the Chicago Cubs.
Surviving relatives include her two sons, Dan and Doug (Tammy) Scott. Jan is predeceased by her parents and by her sister, Marilyn Parker. Jan is also survived by special friend Ed Leach. She had many good friends at Siena on Brendenwood, as well as many longtime friends from grade school and high school.
The family would like to thank the talented and dedicated professionals at Swedish American Hospital, St. Anne's Center, P.A. Peterson, Siena on Brendenwood and Northern Illinois Hospice who helped Jan in her final months.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jan's name to the Unitarian Universalist Church, Northern Illinois Hospice and Trinity Day Care.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church 4848 Turner Street, Rockford, IL 61107, with the Rev. Dr. Matthew Johnson presiding. There will be a time of fellowship following the services.
