Jay H Fern, a vibrant spirit with a knack for mischief and an insatiable zest for life, left us on May 21, 2025, at the age of 78. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 14, 1946, Jay was a true Brooklynite, carrying the city's lively essence wherever he went. Though he wasn't particularly religious, his Hebrew name Shondel was given to him. He found solace in the traditions of Judaism, weaving them into his life's tapestry.

Jay's journey was one marked by unique achievements and a personality larger than life. At Madison High School, he was the captain of the basketball team, leading with charisma and undeniable skill. His career at Creative Management Associates allowed him to dive into the world of music, a passion that resonated with the beat of his heart. Later he had a record store called Woodstock Records. As a business entrepreneur, Jay's ventures were as eclectic as his personality, each endeavor a testament to his relentless drive and creativity.

Those who knew Jay will fondly remember his playful spirit, always ready with a nickname for everyone he met. He was the life of the party, his presence a magnet for laughter and joy. A habitual lottery ticket buyer, Jay was ever hopeful for that big win, a testament to his belief in the magic of possibilities.

Jay's culinary skills were legendary—or infamous, depending on who you asked. His barbecue chicken was always burnt, yet somehow it was exactly what everyone craved at his lively gatherings. To Jay, it wasn't just about the food; it was about bringing people together, creating memories under the sun's warm glow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Carolyn Fern, and Spencer’s and Katie’s daughter, Charlotte Fern.

Jay is survived by his 3 beloved sons and 12 grandchildren; Spencer (Katie) Fern and their children; Nady, Ashton, Tyler, Colton, Justin (Brianna) Fern and their children; Alette, Audrey, Astor, Morgan (Kayla) Fern and their children; Logan, Ayden, Carter, Emma,

his two brothers; Kenneth (Vanna) Fern, Alan (Anna) Fern their children; Christa (Fern) Robert Cassidy, Katlyn (Fern) Steve Gyengo, Alyssa Fern/Sean Rutz, Sister Marjorie (Fern) Stein /Dr. Peter Stein and their children; Stephanie/Joey Romeo, Jacqueline/Christopher Weakley, Evan/Christine Stein and Linda, who will always have a special place in his heart.

Though Jay's physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the laughter he inspired and the love he shared.

Honoring Jay’s wishes, we will spread his ashes at Sheepshead Bay in Brooklyn, New York. As we remember Jay, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of adventure, love, and a touch of mischief.

Cremation rites entrusted with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory.
