Joan “Jo” Lillian Mohrmann, 95, of Rockford, passed away peacefully in her home on June 13, 2025. She was born on February 14, 1930, in Rockford, Illinois, to Ruth (Nelson) Anderson Larson and Clarence Larson. She grew up in Rockford and graduated from East High School in 1947 and Swedish American School of Nursing in 1951. She received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education from the University of Minnesota in 1955. She worked as a surgical nurse for Doctors Gullickson, Smith and Ballenger. She taught at Swedish American and Rockford Memorial Schools of Nursing and spent many years as a school nurse for Rockford District #205 mostly at John F. Kennedy Middle School.
She married the love of her life, Benjamin Charles Mohrmann on May 2, 1959, who she met when Ben was a member of the Rockford Ski Club. Ben and Jo built a cottage named Min Karlek at Ground Hemlock Lake in Crandon, Wisconsin in 1964 and made many memories and had numerous friends up to visit over the course of 40 years. She was a member of Our Masters United Methodist Church in Rockford for many years and now Grace United Methodist Church in Rockford. A woman of faith, Jo enjoyed the company at her Thursday morning bible studies at Grace United Methodist Church. She believed as Ben did, that God created the Earth and it is our job to take care of it and all the people that inhabit it. Jo enjoyed reading mystery books and encouraging others to read. She was the most positive person you’d ever meet and a friend to anyone she’d met.
She is survived by those who loved her most, Lisa Ruth Mohrmann of Rockford, IL and Karl (Kelly) Benjamin Mohrmann of Easley, South Carolina; grandchildren, John and Jack; beloved rescue dog, Skipper; cousins, Marilyn Moyle, Nancy Adams, Heidi Arneson; and numerous special family and friends.
Predeceased by her parents, Clarence and Ruth; stepfather, Robert “Bob” Pihl; husband, Benjamin “Ben”; beloved aunt, Lillian (Nelson) Erickson.
