John Ray Olesen, of Loves Park, born to Rasmus and Vera Olesen, grew up in Winnebago, IL. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 15, at the age of 82. He leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and hard work. Born on August 6, 1943, John attended Clark University, then married Joyce (Bonnie Bea) November 28, 1965, and resided in Rockford, IL. John served his country honorably in the United States Army, where he demonstrated courage and commitment. A true entrepreneur at heart, John was the proud owner of Carpetland USA, where he built a thriving business through his sharp instincts and unwavering work ethic. His astuteness in business was matched only by his kindness and generosity, traits that endeared him to everyone who knew him.
Above all, John was a family man. He was a loving husband to his wife Bonnie for 60 years. Together, they raised a beautiful family. He was a proud father to Erin Kladar/Greg, Kristina Rose/Kevin, and Eric Olesen. He cherished his role as a grandfather and great-grandfather, bringing joy, wisdom, and guidance to the lives of his 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. John was a caring brother to Lynda (John) Bjion, Jim (Deb) Olesen, and Debra (Dick) Medearis. John will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church, 600 Clifford Avenue, Loves Park, Illinois 61111, with a visitation prior to Mass from 10:00 – 10:45 a.m. A night before visitation will be on Monday, August 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, Illinois 61108. Burial will follow Mass at Rockton Township Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for masses in his honor.
