Joseph Paul Frederick

Joseph Paul Frederick, 86, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

Joe was born in Ironwood, Michigan on February 22, 1938, the son of Joseph and Jennie (Krizmanich) Frederick. He graduated from St. Ambrose High School, Class of 1956. After high school, Joe went on to serve in the United States Army.

Joe married Christine Ann Rigoni on August 6, 1960. He proudly dedicated his career as a driver for U.P.S. having received the Circle of Honor Award for 25 years of safe driving and retired after 27 years. Joe was a longtime member of the Cathedral of St. Peter in Rockford where he helped with cleaning and funeral luncheons. He was also a member of the Venetian Club of Rockford. Joe and his wife loved dancing of all kinds and were members of a square-dancing club for several years. Joe had a great passion for gardening and spending time outdoors. He was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers. Joe loved a good glass of wine, and spending time with his dear family and friends. He will be missed. 

Joe is survived by his wife, Christine Frederick; daughter, Jeanean (Greg) Johnson; grandchildren, Andrew (Ashlee) Johnson, Michael (Kat) Frederick and Benjamin Frederick; great-grandchildren, Audrey Frederick, Elinor and Wade Johnson; brother, Jerry (Ceil) Frederick; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends, Virgil and Diane Davit. He is predeceased by his parents and 2 sons, Michael and Thomas Frederick.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Joe’s name to the Cathedral of St. Peter or to a Parkinson’s Foundation of choice.

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 p.m. with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. Rockford, IL 61109. Burial will conclude in Owen Center Cemetery.
