Joseph Perrecone

Joseph “Cappy” Perrecone, 94, Rockford, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2015, after a long illness. He was born January 27, 1921, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Charles and Anna Perrecone. Joe was a WWII veteran of the Navy. He married the former Shirley O’Brien and she passed away on February 2, 2007. Joe worked in the family business, Perrecone Ice and Coal. He also worked at the Illinois Tollway, the Knights of Columbus, and the Rockford, Park District. Joe was an avid golfer, bowler and a diehard Cubs and Bears fan. He was a wonderful husband, dad, and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Joe greeted everyone as if they were a friend.
Survived by his daughters, Michele Perrecone of Green Valley, AZ, Teresa “Pepper” Maxham of Cooper City, FL, and Sheila (Jeff) Hansen of Scottsdale, AZ; his grandchildren, Layne and Brett Hansen and Cody Maxham; his brother, Sam (Marie) Perrecone; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents and his brothers, Peter, Carl, Chico, Mike, Dom, and Charlie. Joe’s family would like to give a heartfelt special thank you to the caring staff at Wesley Willows and to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 12, 2015, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St., Rockford, 61103. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 11, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Visitation will also be from 9:00 A.M. until 9:45 A.M. on Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center, 4215 Newburg Rd. Rockford, 61108.
