Joseph Saladino

Joseph Saladino 75 of Rockford passed away on June 5, 2014 at home with his loving and devoted wife, Sandra by his side. Born May 16, 1939 in Roccamena, Sicily, the son of George and Maria Colletti Saladino. He married Sandra Valenti on October 19, 1963 at St. Anthony of Padua Church. Joe immigrated to Rockford as a child with his parents and sisters in 1949. He worked at Rockford Register Star for 40 years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed Wednesday bowling and pizza with friends. He loved impromptu trips, cooking and supervising Sandra in the kitchen. Joe and Sandra traveled extensively in the US and cruises in Europe.
Survivors include his wife Sandra, sisters Jessie Canale, Rose (Vincent) Miceli and nephews Nunzio (Luann) Canale, Steve (Rachel) Colletti, Anthony (Michelle) Miceli. Nieces, Josephine (Silvio) Bonura and Rosalie (Vince) Torcolese. Several great nieces and nephews and loving cousins. A special thank you to the Menke family, Linda, Debbie, Peter, Paul, Mark, Brenda and John for their loving care and support. And Special friend Jessica Ruvolo. The family gives a big thank you to Dr. Stim, Mary Cassandra and the wonderful staff at Davita Dialysis. Predeceased by his parents, brother-in-law Jack Canale and Sister Carmela and brother-in-law Saverio Colletti, Mother and Father-in-law Michael and Theresa Valenti whom he loved and respected as parents.
Funeral mass at 11am Tuesday June 10, 2014 in St Anthony of Padua Church with his special cousin Father Richard Russo officiating. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation from 4pm until 6pm Monday June 9, 2014 in Fitzgerald Funeral Home 1860 South Mulford Road with rosary at 5:30. Visitation also from 10 am until 10:45 Tuesday in the church.
