Joyce Elaine Hart was born in Chicago on March 7, 1929, and went to be with the Lord from Rockford on September 15, 2025. She was married to Roger Clarence Hart on December 31, 1949, enjoying 60 years of marriage.
Joyce lived an exemplary and exhaustive life of service to others, starting with the Lord and her family. She was compassionate and kind, generous to a fault in investing her time, talent, and treasure. Joyce was extremely engaged in the United Methodist Church, serving in church leadership, women’s circle, youth fellowship, and choirs (vocal and handbell). Her dedication led her from the church to the community, where she led and participated in Meals on Wheels, gift shops at Ravenswood Hospital and Wesley Willows, and countless other compassionate ministries. She was a leader and involved in the PTA, scouting (boy and girl), Illini Downstreamers (canoeing), election polling, and block party organizing. As mentioned above, hers was a zealous and devoted life of service in the church and the world. If there was a need, that’s where you found Joyce – baking, sewing, doing for others with no thought of reward or recognition. And she enjoyed playing and defeating her family and friends at dominoes and card games.
Joyce leaves behind 1 sister, Gail, and 4 children – Candice, Ted, Sandra (Michael), and Deborah (Richard). Her husband, Roger, preceded her in death in 2010. She also has 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, who will all miss her greatly.
May her memory be a blessing and her life be an example of how to live for others.
