Karen L. Reed

Karen L. Reed-Sommers, 69, passed away on March 17, 2024, in Rockford. Born on March 9, 1955, in Baltimore, Maryland, the daughter of Glenn and Emma Jean Sommers-Ross. She held a certification in nursing, spending her career as a health care scheduler. Later, she worked in home health care. She had a passion for helping others. She married her loving husband, Archie Reed, on June 6, 1987, in Rockford, where they shared 37 years of marriage together. Karen cherished the time she spent with her family.

She will be missed dearly by her sister, Beth Schell-Sommers; her niece, Ashley Schell; her husband, Archie; her daughter, Christina Reed; her son, Christian Reed; her grandchildren, MaKayla Reed, Ethan Reed, Leona Reed, and Destiny Reed; her stepchildren, Artemis Reed, Adrianne Reed, Atesha Reed, and Andrea Hemby; she is predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Glenn “Buddy” Sommers.

A visitation will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Funeral service, 11:00 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL, 61108. Will be led by Pastor Bennie Reed along with prayers by Pastor Willie Reed, A burial is to follow at Arlington Memorial Park.
