Laverne L. Peterson

LaVerne L. Peterson, 83, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 in Provena St. Anne Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on October 22, 1927 in Monroe Center to Iver and Alva (Schumacher) Peterson. Married Doris A. Blake in Rockford on November 19, 1948. Member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. LaVerne served in the Korean War. Farmed most of his life and owned Peterson Livestock Trucking. He clerked at farm auctions, enjoyed going fishing, golfing, casinos along with his annual vacations to Texas. Club member of VFW, American Legion, Moose of Belvidere, Harmony, SMamp; SF, Lithuanian and Polish Falcon of Rockford.
Survivors include his wife, Doris; daughter, Kathy (Kevin) Williams; grandchildren, Rachele (Shawn) Edwards and Ryan (Katherine Wadsworth) Dunn; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyler; sister, Audrey (Don) Easton all of Rockford; and an aunt, uncle and several cousins. Predeceased by his parents.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00am Monday, April 11, 2011 at Fitzgerald Funeral Home amp; Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, ILnbsp; 61108 with Pastor Ralph Kuespert officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00pm Sunday, April 10 and from 10:00 to 11:00am Monday both at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church or Provena St. Anne Center.
