Lavona L. Peterson

LaVona Lorraine Peterson, 84, Rockford, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2014, in Anam Care following a lengthy illness. She was born November 21, 1929, in Otho, Iowa, the daughter of Leonard and Sadie (Swenson) Lundberg. She was a 1947 graduate of Burnside Consolidated High School. LaVona married Ted Peterson in Rockford on April 27, 1962. He passed away in 1989. She enjoyed playing golf in both the 9 hole and the 18 hole leagues, she volunteered as a Pink Lady at Rockford Memorial Hospital, played bridge at the Duplicate Bridge Center and loved to sing and dance. LaVona was a friend of Bill W. for 44 years. She spent her winters at her home in Green Valley, AZ since 1992.
Survived by her children, Rhonda Read of Crestline,CA, Tam Derry of Rockford, Greg Porter of Rhinelander, WI, Don (Yolanda) Peterson of Machesney Park, and Charlie Peterson of Kirkland, WA; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, her sister, Karen Swenson of Ankeny. Predeceased by her husband, Ted, her son, Mike Peterson, her sister, Shirley Sene, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, June 30, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. with Chaplain Maureen McLain of Heartland Hospice officiating. Burial in Scandinavian Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until time of service on Monday at the funeral home.
