Leon Ray Morford, age 83, of Rockford, died on Sunday, June 1, 2025.
He was born in Hugoton, Kansas on January 15, 1942. Leon played football in high school and excelled at numerous sports. He even completed several triathlons. Immediately following high school, Leon went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy. After retiring from the Navy, Leon worked for Chrysler of Belvidere where he became the boiler house foreman. Leon married Patricia Rose Wellington on May 26, 1972, in Rockford, IL. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing and camping all throughout the United States with his wife. Together, they traveled the country and were able to visit all lower 48 states.
Leon is survived by his stepchildren, Recio Encinas and Sandra Stebbins; 7 siblings; sister-in-law, Jerrie Ackerman; niece, Sherrie Ackerman and nephew, Loran Ackerman. He is predeceased by his parents and his wife, Pat.
A visitation will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Avenue, Rockford, IL 61103. The burial will conclude in Willwood Burial Park, Rockford, IL.
