Leona L. Cavanagh, 92 of Roscoe, died in her home after a brief illness, Wednesday, March 28, 2007 surrounded by her family. Born December 20, 1914 in Hazel Green, WI, the daughter of Joseph and Gladys (Schnorenberg). Leona was the oldest of six children. Graduate of Bishop Muldoon High School. Married her loving husband John Cavanagh on September 11, 1937 in Oregon. Worked for Contour Housing Mills and at St. Patrick Catholic Church for Fr. McNally as a secretary. Moved to Roscoe in 1964 and started working at Loves Park Savings and Loan as a secretary/treasurer. Leona was an exceptional seamstress, quilter and tended to a fabulous garden growing tomatoes and grapes every year. When she began to lose her eyesight and hearing she was called upon to say rosaries for her family and those in need. She is survived by her 3 sons; John Michael ""Mike"" (Kay), Thomas ""Tom"" (Patty), and Patrick ""Pat"" ; 7 grandchildren, Amy, Steve, Jason (Melissa), Jeremy (Dawn), Jeffery (Jennifer), Mallory and Megan; 9 great great grandchildren, Ashely, Nick, Colin, Kayla, Spencer, Seth, Mitchell, Aristen, Shaw; brother, Joe (Helen) Lynde; Sisters, Virginia Kenney, Patricia (Harold) Tietz; 4 sisters-in-law, several nieces, nephews and other family and friends. Preceded in death by parents, her husband John of 63 years on May 26, 2000, siblings Marie Layng and Robert ""Bob"" Lynde in 2004. A special thank you to her faithful caregiver Ruth and to Florence, June and Joan for coming to visit her weekly. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Bridget Catholic Church with Rev. Brian A. Olsen officiating. Interment will be held in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 30 from 5-8 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., with a rosary to be recited at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday at church from 9-9:45. In lieu of flowers please make memorials in her name to St. Bridget Catholic Church or OSF Hospice Care.
