Lillian Marion George

Lillian Marion George, 84, of Rockford, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2015. She was born April 5, 1931 in Rockford, the daughter of Motieus (Mike) and Marya (Mary) Daugirda. Graduate of Rockford West High School - Class of 1948. She married Lloyd (Bob) George on February 9, 1952.
Lillian’s life was forever changed when her husband Bob passed away on April 25th, 1970. She was a strong, independent woman who took full charge of her family of three children. Initially she began working as a waitress in the tearoom at Flowers by Connie. Then, transitioned to a position in retail which at that time, was the newly opening Marshall Field’s store at the Cherry Vale Mall. Her talents blended so well with her favorite role as a Personal Shopper, and she also held managerial positions of various departments such as the fabric, linens and china. During this time she also used her sewing talents to earn additional income, producing many items from clothes to drapery. Her opportunity to travel took her to Columbia, South America and London, England leaving her with many wonderful adventure memories. In her retirement years, her love of music, knitting, sewing, and yard care filled her days.
Survivors include her son, Kevin George, daughter Lynette (Lynn) George, daughter-in-law Nancy (Hulstedt) George; three grandchildren Erica (Vaughn) de Guzman, Emily (Al) Schaefer, and Joseph George; and four great grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Lloyd (Bob) George and her son, Loring George. Fitzgerald Funeral Home is helping the family with a private gathering. Private interment to be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials to the family.
