Marcia Jean Woodman, 90, of Cherry Valley passed away peacefully Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Alden Park Strathmoor. Born on March 20, 1933, in Rockford, the daughter of Ronald and Gertrude (Madsen) Walker. She was immediately known as a survivor, being born prematurely 90 years ago weighing just under 3lbs. Marcia survived The Great Depression that brought about many family struggles. She graduated from Yuma High School in Arizona and made her way back to Rockford where she fell in love with and married Darwin Woodman on November 28, 1957. They shared 56 years of love as “Dar & Mar”. She worked as a switchboard operator on the early phone plug and jack systems at Rockford Memorial Hospital and later operated the PBX phone system at Saint Anthony Medical Center. Marcia was a member of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church and knows Jesus as her Savior. Marcia was always the mom that loved her kids unconditionally and poured out that love selflessly. She lived a full, long life and will be greatly missed.
Survived by her sister Patricia Gilliland; children, Craig Woodman, Gary Woodman of Rockford, and Gail (Al) Zernia of Rockford; grandchildren, Nancie Hood, Miranda and Reid Woodman and A.J. and Zoe Zernia; a very special and dear caregiver, Donna. Predeceased by her parents; her beloved husband, Darwin “Woody”; and son, Ron Woodman.
