Loving and Devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother

Margaret R. DeVita, 90, Rockford, was born to eternal life on November 23, 2013. Born March 20, 1923 in Detroit, MI, daughter of Andrew and Diana (Laudicina) Vissillo. Married William A. DeVita in the Shrine of the Little Flower Church, Royal Oaks, MI on June 28, 1952. While living in Michigan, she was proudly employed at JL Hudson for several years and was a USO volunteer during WWII. She had formerly worked at the North Town Weise's in accessories and retired from the Bergner's Distribution Center following 19 years of employment. Bill and Margaret were charter members of St. Bernadette Catholic Church where she was a member of Ladies of St. Bernadette and their Senior Association. She was also a member of Catholic Women's League and the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. As her children were growing up she was a playground volunteer at St. Bernadette School, Cub Scout Leader and assisted with the Girl Scouts. Margaret enjoyed traveling and did beautiful crocheting and handiwork.

Survivors include her husband, William A. DeVita; daughter, Diane (James) Rawls, Palatine; sons, John DeVita, Bob DeVita and William (Jill) DeVita, Stevens Point, WI; grandchildren, Louis DeVita, Abigail DeVita, Brian Rawls and Steven Rawls; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Tony and Mary Lou DeVita and Josephine Larson, and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Margaret's family would like to extend a special thank you to her special care giver, Teena Dennis, the staff of VNA Hospice, especially Rose Rainer and Shelly Bryant and Stephanie Crawford, APN-NP.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m.on Saturday, November 30, 2013 in St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Entombment in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation from 4-8p.m. Friday in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Ave. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:30 p.m. Visitation also at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until 9:15 a.m. on Saturday. Memorials may be given to St. Bernadette School, 2300 Bell Ave. or VNA Hospice, 4223 E. State Street, Rockford, IL 61108. Extend condolences and share memories at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
