Marsha “Marci” L. DiGiovanni, 64, passed away in her home on March 13, 2015, after a long courageous battle with breast cancer. Throughout her illness, Marci inspired others with her positive attitude and outlook on life. Born August 30, 1950, in Rockford, the daughter of the late Albert Giller and Jean (Kominsky) Giller. Married Anthony G. DiGiovanni on September 3, 1976, in Rockford. She was a graduate of West High School and Northern Illinois University. Marci worked as an elementary school art teacher at Franklin Middle School for a few years and as a computer aid at Bloom School for a number of years. Marci was a huge Chicago Blackhawks, Bears and Cubs fan and NIU football fan. She also loved to travel, having traveled the world with her husband, enjoyed gardening and knitting, spending many years in a weekly knitting group, and was a prolific reader. Marci is survived by her husband, Anthony; sons, Frank DiGiovanni and Albert (Paula) DiGiovanni; sisters, Barbara (Harold) Weiss and Judith Talbott; sisters-in-law, Ann Kiwaiko and Alberta Manley and brother-in-law, Merlin Manley, numerous nephews and nieces and special friend, Lynn Nocifora. A special thank you to Dr. Einhorn and his staff at Swedish American Cancer Center and the staff at Heartland Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Please, in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carpenters Place, 1149 Railroad Ave, Rockford, IL 61104, or charity of your choice.
