Mary Almira (Al) Mitchell, 94, died on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at River Bluff Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.Mary was born on June 6, 1918 in Seymour, Wis., the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Wiegel. Mary was a Rockford resident for 70 years, coming here from Forreston, IL.She married Willis S. Mitchell in Darlington, Wis. on Oct 15, 1938. She was primary caregiver for Bill during the later years of their 55 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1993. During her 47 years as Avon Presidents Club sales representative she received many awards and prizes due to her untiring efforts. Mary was still active with Avon sales at the age of 93. Mary was a member of St. Anthonys Catholic Church. Some of Marys greatest joys in life were spending time with her family, making malts for grandchildren and sharing her love of music with everyone. She and Bill sang beautiful harmonies all of their lives. Survivors include her children, James Mitchell of Rockford, Dolores Faye (Bob) Smallwood of Rockford, Glenn Mitchell of Buda, Texas, Laura (Roger) Brace of Brookfield, WI, John Mitchell of Rockford, Thomas (Mary Ellen) Mitchell of Mequon, WI, and Mary (Randy) Cowan of Stoughton, WI.; many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and greatgreat grandchildren; sisters, Lillian Smith of Pittstown, NJ and Evelyn Perko of Mundelein, IL; sisterinlaw, Shirley Wiegel of Monroe, WI. and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at River Bluff Nursing Home for their loving care of our mother. Friends and family will gather on Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 3910 N. Rockton Ave, Rockford. Visitation will also take place on Monday, January 7 from 9:00 to 9:45a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson Street prior to a Mass at 10:00 a.m. officiated by the Franciscan Friars.Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Winnebago, IL.
