Mary Jane Johnson, 91, passed away on Saturday December 23 2023.
She was born in Saugatuck, Conn. on November 19, 1932 to Michael Capriola and Lucy (Lassandro) Capriola.
Mary Jane worked over 35 years at Bob's Hardware, she started out working in the office but after a few years she switched to cashiering because she liked to be with people.
She was a long time member of St. Rita church since 1965 when the church was a farmhouse in Cherry Valley. She did a lot of volunteering at St. Rita, especially for the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Mary Jane loved to buy clothes for her granddaughters when they were young and take them to Bishops for lunch. She was on a bowling league for many years. She liked playing bingo and playing slot machines at the casinos. She also enjoyed vacationing with her husband, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Rudy Puricelli.
Mary Jane is lovingly survived by her daughter, Chris Knauer, her granddaughters Cindy Knauer and Nicky (Tom) Danielson. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Fred Johnson, son-in-law Ron Knauer, her parents, sister Anita Chincherna, brother Carmen Capriola, sister-in-laws Betty Puricelli, Ruth Scott and Brother-in laws Rudy Puricelli and Tony Chincherna.

Funeral Mass at 11a.m. on January 3, at St. Rita Catholic Church, Msgr. Gerald Kobbeman will officiate, luncheon to follow at Holy Family Catholic Church, then private burial in Arlington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Poor Clare's at 2111 South Main St. Rockford, IL 61102.
