Mary W. Taphorn

MARY W. TAPHORN, 91, lifelong Rockford resident, died at 3:42 a.m. Sunday, October 21, 2007 in Alden Alma Nelson Manor. Born March 29, 1916, daughter of Albert and Margaret (McCartney) Wright. Married Robert D. Taphorn in Rockford on November 30 1939. He died November 5, 1979. Mary was a long time active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church where she was involved in many church and school activities. She lived at Luther Center High Rise for many years where she served as Social Chairman on the Residents Board. She volunteered at ""On the Waterfront"" and was named as one the ""Volunteers of the Year"" for the State of Illinois in 1987. She enjoyed reading and knitting and loved all things Scotch/Irish. Survivors include her daughters, Susan Taphorn and Melissa Taphorn both of Rockford; son, Dennis (Freda) Taphorn, Henderson, NV; grandson, Mark, Rockford; brother, James, Chicago, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law, Mary Jane Taphorn and Patricia Taphorn. Predeceased by her husband, parents and sister. Private family graveside services will be held in Calvary Cemetery with Rev. William R. Wentink officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family for a memorial to be established in Marys memory. Arrangements were made with Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S.
