Melvin E. Homuth

March 19, 1947 — October 27, 2013

Melvin E. Homuth, 66, of Machesney Park, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013, peacefully in his home. Born March 19, 1947 in Jamestown, North Dakota, the son of Veryle and Iona (Johnson) Homuth. He married Georgiann Reola in June of 1968 in Rockford at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. He was a truck driver for many years and became the owner of Action Moving and Storage in 1993, where he was the owner/president for 20 years. Mel loved being involved in the community as a basketball coach, a football referee and an umpire for baseball, officiating hundreds of games a year. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church, where he was actively involved. Mel was also a member of the National Rifle Association. More than anything, his family and especially his grandchildren were very dear to him and he enjoyed spending time with them. The Homuth Family would like to give a special thank you to Northern Illinois Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.

Mel is lovingly survived by his wife, Georgy; children, Amy (Robert) Salamone, David (Donna) Homuth and Carrie (David) Albert; grandchildren, Kristine, Laura, Scott and Julia Albert, Audrey Homuth and Allie and Joe Salamone; sisters, Karen (Ronald) Rude and Barbara (William) Dettmer; sisters-in-law, Debi (Michael) Seivert and Jo (Ed) Nolan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by grandsons, Joshua Carriglitto and Bobby Salamone.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Concordia Lutheran Church, 7424 N. Second Street, Machesney Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 2, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. and will continue on Saturday at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
