Nellie E. Runne

Nellie E. Runne, 98, of Rockford, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Nellie was born in Pecatonica, IL, the daughter of Warren and Lois (Campbell) Kammerer. She graduated from Pecatonica High School. Nellie worked as a corporate secretary for Barber-Colman manufacturing company. She married Willis D. Runne on August 30, 1947, in Pecatonica. Nellie was a proud member of the American Heart Association. She was an avid reader and enjoyed doing her crossword puzzles, playing card games and fishing. She took great pride in maintaining and caring for her beautiful yard and garden at home. Most of all, Nellie cherished spending time with her family. She will be dearly missed.

Surviving relatives include her children, Dr. Thomas (Dr. Joan) Runne, Dr. William (Aoi) Runne, Dr. Barbara (Lawrence) Theobald and Dr. Judith Runne; grandchildren, Dr. John Runne, Olivia, Isabel and Amelia Runne, Joseph and Lee Theobald, Dr. Amanda Stone (Justin Troyner) and Dr. Michael Stone; great-grandson, Jameson Troyner; sister, Phyllis Peterson; sister-in-law, Virginia Kammerer and numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie is predeceased by her parents, husband, Willis Runne and son-in-law, Dr. Kenneth Stone.

The family extends heartfelt appreciation to all of the staff at St. Anne’s with special gratitude to Henrietta, KeKe, Lori, Michele, Kristi, and Kathryn.

The family also extends sincere gratitude to Dr. Tom Michalsen and Heather Hartman for their long time care and support of Nellie.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025, with visitation from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL  61108. Burial will be in Perpetual Care Cemetery in Pecatonica at a later date.
