Rockford—Patrick Dennis McCarren, 69 of Rockford passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at St. Anne’s Center after a courageous battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Loving son, born June 18, 1947 in Rockford, Illinois to William T. McCarren and Alice M. Hibbard-McCarren. Lifelong member of The Cathedral of St. Peter. A graduate of St. Peter’s Grade School, Boylan Catholic High School (1965). Patrick received his bachelor’s degree in business from Rockford College. Beloved employer of many throughout the years in his capacity as president of family business, Flow-Eze Company. Patrick was helped and helped many through his fellowship of Friends of Bill W in Downtown Group and HOW and in St. Peter’s Cancer Support Group. Throughout his life he faced many battles, strengthening his faith and creating an example for his family and friends. His impish Irish eyes could engage one while regaling a story or tale to lighten one’s day. A talented artist, gardener, cook, and storyteller – he will be forever missed.
Survivors include: Loving ex-wife and mother of his children, Susan McClelland-McCarren-Chapin (Bart); Daughter, Kari Anne McCarren-Hazzard (Daniel), Granddaughters, Caroline Grace and Katherine Shea; Son, Shaun Patrick McCarren (Jessica), Grandchildren, Shane Patrick and Madison Lynn;
Sister, Mary Carol Ingraham; Sister-in-law, Paula McCarren-Brown; and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, brother Michael Thomas, and in-laws Lowell and Juanita McClelland.
Special thanks to Dr. Khan and Dr. Ahmad and the entire staff of OSF and St. Anne’s for their loving care over the past few years and days.
Funeral Mass 10am Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Cathedral of St. Peter 1243 N. Church Street with Fr. Steven St. Jules officiating. Burial in Arlington Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm Friday, September 2, 2016 with Christian wake service to be recited at 6:30pm at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory (Mulford Chapel) 1860 S. Mulford Road. Visitation will continue Saturday morning from 9 to 9:45am at the cathedral. Memorials may be made to the family on Patrick’s behalf. Express online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com
