Phillip "Buzz" Frye

Phillip Wayne "Buzz" Frye, 76, Rockford, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at Rosewood Care Center. He was born June 9, 1937, in Ottawa, the son of Cecil and Jean (Hagen) Frye. Buzz was a Navy veteran serving from 1957 until 1961. While in the Navy he was a member of the color guard on the USS Blandy as it returned the Unknown Soldiers from WWII and the Korean Conflict to the Arlington National Cemetery. Buzz married Joyce Frazer at the Church by the Side of the Road in Rockton on July 20, 1974. He worked at Rockford Products for 39 years. He was a member of Belvidere VFW Post #1461 and the Belvidere American Legion Post #77. Buzz was an avid Bears, Bulls, and White Sox fan. He and Joyce enjoyed traveling especially their trips to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Alaska. In his later years in enjoyed going on casino trips and golfing with his friends at Sandy Hollow Golf Course.
Survived by his brother, Richard (Colleen) Frye of Cherry Valley; his sister-in-law, Margaret McDaniel; his brother-in-law, David Frazer; his nieces and nephews, Steven and David (Lauren) Frye, Jody Forte, Jamie (Ric) Ullmark, and Theresa (Roger) Thompson; several great nieces and great nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 11 A.M., Monday, May 19, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Visitation will be from 10:00A.M. until time of service. Cremation rites have been accorded. Private family burial in Arlington Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the American Cancer Society, 4312 E.
