Phyllis V. Carlson, 84, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016; in the loving care of her family, at her home. Phyllis was born in Rockford on April 21, 1931. She graduated from East High School in 1949; and was engaged to be married to Richard J. Carlson while he served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954. Phyllis and Richard were wed on May 7, 1954, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Phyllis will be forever remembered for her kind and compassionate heart and her devotion to family. Phyllis was less concerned about herself, always putting others first, and she was a phenomenal cook.
She is survived by her children, Craig (Lynn) Carlson, Scott Carlson, and Karen (Ryan) Thompson; grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Carlson, Emily and Michael Thompson.
Phyllis is predeceased by her parents; her husband Richard in 2012; and her brother, Robert White.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thurday, March 3, 2016; at Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 1860 S. Mulford Rd., Rockford, IL, 61108; with Rev. Dan Herman of Old Stone Church, Rockton officiating. Burial will follow to Arlington Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2016; at the Funeral Home and will continue on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Carlson Family, for a fund to be determined at a later date. The Carlson Family would like to thank Dr. Trent Barnhart and the staff with OSF Hospice for all of their loving kindness.
