Rae Thompson, 74, Ridott, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014, in Rockford Memorial Hospital. She was born June 29, 1939 in Mitchell, SD, the daughter of Willis and Esther (Witzel) Dodd. Rae moved to IL in 1945 with her parents and seven siblings to a farm near Monroe Center. They were all raised on that farm. After graduation from Stillman Valley High School, Rae went to work at Barber Coleman Co. working as an assembler in the Industrial Instruments Department, retiring in 1999 after 42 years. She married and had two daughters, Debra and Pamela. In her younger years, Rae loved to camp, boat, bowl and play softball. In her later years she enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, golf, and billiards. She married David W. Thompson in Las Vegas, NV on June 7, 1997. Rae and Dave, along with help from their family and friends built their home in the country. Together they went to Lake Carroll camping, fishing, and golfing. She and Dave spent their winters in Donna, TX where they golfed, fished, and had many good times with their family and friends. Rae was a member of the Loves Park VFW and the Lake Carroll Association.
Survived by her husband, David, her daughters, Debra (Ron) Teeters of Davis, and Pamela (Ken) Bokath of Rockford; her grandchildren, Nicole and Amber Teeters, Damien Wise and Devyin Bokath; her sisters, Donna Lawson of Roscoe, Patricia Jensen of Machesney Park, and Peggy Case of Rockford; her brothers, Willis (Neva) Dodd, Jr of Lanark and Jerry (Kathy) Dodd of Davis Junction; her sisters-in-law, Judy Smallwood of Phoenix, AZ and Ruth Kelly of Rockford; her brothers-in-law, John (Jacque) Thompson of Rockford and Robert (Roxanne) Thompson of Rapid City, SD; her step-children, Debbie (Jeff ) Kelley and David Thompson both of AL; 6 step grandchildren and 2 great-step grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews who are very special to her. Predeceased by her parents, her brother, Norman Dodd; her sister, Kay Rippentrop, her brothers-in-law, Dick Case, Dwight Lawson, Spencer Jensen and Roger Smallwood.
Funeral services will be at 2:30 P.M., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory, Riverside Chapel, 3910 N. Rockton Av. Burial in New Milford Cemetery. Visitation from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Friday, June 27, 2014, at the funeral home and again from 1:30 P.M. until time of service on Saturday. Share online condolences at www.fitzgeraldfh.com.
