Robert 'Bob' Maculan

Robert “Bob” Maculan, 66 of Rockford, passed away Friday, July 5, 2024. Born on March 1st of 1958 in Rockford, IL to Robert Armand and Patricia (Dettman) Maculan. Bob attended St. Peter’s School and Boylan Catholic High School. He went on to graduate from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s in science and communications, with the interest of photojournalism; being the first in his family to do so. Bob was a dedicated parishioner and proud weekly usher at the Cathedral of St. Peter. He was a master craftsman who could envision and succeed in any remodeling project he took upon himself. He was a sports guy, playing football and basketball in his free time and rooting for the Chicago Cubs and Green Bay Packers. He often told his children, “I taught you Jesus, sports, and rock n’ roll”. He was known for his jokes and ability to turn anything into a party. With a youthful spirit and genuine lust for life, Bob was loved by everyone around him- he treated the ones close to him like family, never missing a birthday or an opportunity to make someone laugh. 

He is survived by those who love him most, wife, Kathy Maculan; daughters, Cynthia and Jullia Maculan; sisters, Sue (Sal) Marino, Deb (Bernie) Kelsey; cousins, Steve, Dan (Jina), Phil (DeeDee); much loved nieces, nephew, great nieces and nephews- whom he loved carrying on the tradition of being Santa Claus for- and friends he treated as family. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert Armand and Patricia, uncles, and aunts. 

A visitation for Bob will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. through 11:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 1243 N. Church St., Rockford, IL, 61103. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:30 a.m. with Very Reverend Kenneth J. Anderson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
