Robert E. Glenny 91 of Rockford passed away Monday May 13, 2013 in Wesley Willows. He was born April 3, 1922 in Beloit, Wisconsin, the son of Percy and Mamie Bertchie Glenny. After graduating from Rockford High School in 1940, he went on to serve in the Navy during WWII as a Sonar Operator on a Sub Chaser, patrolling the waters of the Panama Canal and the South Pacific. Bob married Marguerite Schalck on October 7, 1947 in Rockford. He owned Halsted Nurseries and later worked as an Electrician, retiring in 1984 from the IBEW #364. Bob was a Charter member of Aldersgate Church. His first love was music, playing the Saxophone and Clarinet. Throughout the years Bob sang in the Aldersgate Church choir and played music all over Rockford with many bands, such as, the Astronotes and The Olde Town Band He also played in Florida for the Windjammers and The Shriner Band. He started and directed the YMCA's Retired Men's Club Band, "the East Bank Commanders" and also played in Rockford's "Coming of Age Program" for many years. Bob also directed the YMCA Choir, was a life member of the Masonic Lodge and was also a member of the Tebala Shrine. Survivors include his wife Marguerite of Rockford. Children, Diane L. Glenny of Hudson, WI, Loretta (Tom) Glenny-O'Connor of Naperville, Robert (Janeen Drog -) Glenny of Rockford and Patricia (Jim) Wilson of Rockford. Grandchildren, Stephen Drog, Marquette, MI, Hailey Wilson and Samuel Wilson all of Rockford. Step-grandchildren, Kevin O'Connor of Forest Park, IL, Brian (Marta) O'Connor of Bogota, Columbia and Molly (Yannick) O'Connor-Leroy of Glen Ellyn, IL. Two great grandchildren, Alejandro and Benjamin of Bogota, Columbia. Brother, Dr. Wilmer Glenny of Bellaire, MI. Nieces and nephews, Karen (Bob) Joslyn of Grosse Point Farms, MI, Barbara (Tom) Naumes of Bellaire, MI, MaryBeth (Mark) Arwady of Algonac, MI, Jeff (Katie) Glenny of Charlevoix, MI. Predeceased by his parents and sister-in-law Clara Lou Glenny. Bob leaves behind a legacy of music, laughter and love. Memorial service at 11:30am Saturday June 8, 2013 in Aldersgate Methodist Church with Memorial visitation from 9am until service time. In lieu of flowers memorials to Aldersgate , Northern Illinois Hospice and Wesley Willows Good Samaritan Fund.
