Robert L. Schopf

August 10, 1931 — May 14, 2025

Rockford

Robert "Bob" Leo Schopf, a devoted husband, father, grandfather “Bapa”, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Rockford, Illinois, on August 10, 1931, the son of Alfred and Myrtle (Doonan) Schopf. Bob was a proud veteran who served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Oriskany. After serving in the Navy, Bob had many different jobs. He carried mail for the US Postal Service, was a hardworking and talented carpenter who built several of his own homes, then transitioned into selling millwork and later became the manager of Rock River Distributors.

Bob married the love of his life, Patricia "Pat" M. Huene on May 20, 1961, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rockford. They would have celebrated 64 cherished and wonderful years of marriage together this year.

He was devoted to his faith, being an active member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and his church community. He served as a Eucharistic minister, an usher, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He served on the parish council and was very involved in the corned beef and cabbage dinners for many years. Bob later became a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Rockford.

Bob found great joy in gardening. He enjoyed horseback riding on his beloved horse Midnight. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Notre Dame fan. Bob liked golfing, square dancing, playing cards, and snow birding in their RV. Bob also enjoyed spending time with family and friends, visiting casinos, going to horse races, watching Western movies and reading books.

Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Pat Schopf; his children, Lisa (Michael) Burkhard, Mark (Michelle) Schopf, and Kathy (Rick) Biavati; along with his dear grandchildren, Amy (Brooks) Luckett, Kate (Ben) Hroncich, Sara (Nate) Haug, Mary (Dan) Miletic, Meg Schopf, Matthew Schopf, and Marie Schopf; cherished great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Addison, Maya, and Grant and his brother-in-law, Gerald Mastroianni. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Myrtle (Doonan) Schopf, and his sisters, Agnes Fussenger, MaryLou Eddy, and Rose Mastroianni.

The Schopf family would like to recognize and give special thanks to the staff of Northern Illinois Hospice for their kindness, care and compassion during their time with Bob.
