Shirley Mae Powell, 85, Rockford, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2013, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born February 12, 1928, in Rockford, the daughter of Edward and Rose Bartman. Shirley married Charles Powell in Rockford on November 16, 1946. She was a member of Central Christian Church. Shirley enjoyed shopping and going to garage sales. She volunteered as a Pink Lady at Rockford Memorial Hospital for many years. Shirley loved spending time with her family.
Survived by her husband Charles; her children, Linda (Jerry) Carlson, Laurie (Gregory) Philpot, Chuck Powell, all of Rockford, and Lisa (Dan) Smith of South Beloit; grandchildren, Kelli (Bob) Purvis, Carri (Mark) Tullier, Michael Philpot, Ryan (Amy) Philpot, Matthew (Gretchen) Philpot, Brandon and Austin Smith; 13 great-grandchildren; special friend, Betty Van Fleet. Predeceased by her parents, her sister, Millie Whitman; special friend, Mary Nolly.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am, Friday, March 22, 2013, at Central Christian Church, 6595 Guilford Rd. with Reverend Sherman Nichols officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation from 9:00 am until 10:45 am on Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church.
