Steven W. Zarembski passed away on May 25, 2026.
Born on December 3, 1955 in Rockford, son of William and Barbara Zarembski. Steve graduated from Boylan High School in 1974 and continued his education at Illinois State University where he was a member of the football team and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Rockford College in 1977. Steve spent most of his career as director of new business development and VP of Marketing at Haldex-Barnes. He retired from Excelsior Incorporated in 2018.
Steve enjoyed many hobbies including sailing on Geneva Lake, skiing in multiple states out west, biking at Rock Cut, working out in his home gym, and genealogical research. He coached Junior Tackle football for Tom Harmer, Police and Fire, and Nelson Storm. He was a member of the Rock Valley Ski Association and a parishioner at St. Anthony’s Parish. Steve had many life long friends and enjoyed his time with his biking/skiing buddies. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He enjoyed going to their sporting events and hanging out with them at the inground pool he installed at home just for them.
Survivors include wife of 48 years, LeAnn Zarembski, mother Barbara Zarembski; children Ryan (Katie) Zarembski, Valerie (Scott) Mutton, Matthew (Whitney) Zarembski; grandchildren Natalie, Abby, Maggie Zarembski and Vivienne and Jake Mutton, sister Kerry (Jim) Teske, brother David (Cathy) Zarembski, brother in law Dave (Mary) North, sister in law Pam (Scott) Andrew, sister in law Jill North and aunt Mary Perkins. He was predeceased by his father William Zarembski and uncle Bruce Perkins.
The family would like to thank the staff at UW Health University Hospital and Northern Illinois Hospice for the care they provided for Steve.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2026, at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory. Celebration of the Mass of Christian burial will beat 10:00 a.m. with visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Rockford, IL 61102. Burial will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
