Sue Lynn Lapin, 84, of Rockford, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home on Friday, May 1, 2026, surrounded by loving family.

Sue was born in Madison, WI, on July 14, 1941, the daughter of Frederick Joseph Schroeder and Luella Louise Morrison. Prior to her husband’s retirement she was a stay-at-home mom, volunteer lunch lady and dubbed “The Cool Mom” by the students. Sue was strong in her faith and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was a longtime resident of the Rockford Luther Center where she made many dear friends during her time there. Sue was an avid plant lover, talented accordion, piano and organ player and even learned to play by ear. She also enjoyed singing in the choir from a young age. She enjoyed fishing and reminiscing on her many fond memories and stories of fishing with her family. Her true loves in life were coffee, chocolate, ice cream, and of course her beloved family and friends. Sue embraced her special nickname, “Grandma Soup Bone” given to her by her beloved grandchildren and her wonderful son-in-law, John Adams. Grandma Soup Bone will be dearly missed.

Those left to honor Sue’s memory include her children, Janell (John) Adams of Byron and Lanay (Alan) Jacobs of Monticello, MN; grandchildren, Ashley (Brian), Paige (Jonathon), Eddie, John (Kristina), Suelynn, Isabella and Steven; great grandchildren, Destiniqua, Ticaria, Eddie, Jamir and Tamia; great-great-grandson, D.J.; her siblings, Frederick Jr. (Vicky), Bob (Bonnie), Terry (Sandra), Thomas (Becky), Richard (Patty), Malcolm, Patty, Judy; numerous nieces and nephews, and her dear friend, Robert.
