Susan "Sue" Mina Morris

Susan “Sue” Mina Morris, 80, of Rockford, passed away on December 1, 2023. She was born on October 7, 1943, in Arlington Heights, IL, the daughter of Elmer and Erna (Krueger) Schmidt. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from University of Wisconsin, Stout where she was a member, Treasurer and Historian of the Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority. Sue married William Ronald Morris on June 27, 1970, in Chicago.


Sue was first a secretary for 5 years before she went to college. Following graduation, Sue worked for Kraft foods in the Advertising and Marketing department. William and Sue moved from Chicago to purchase a farm of which they converted to an egg and poultry business. Sue was a licensed day care provider for 27 years, her last 10 years working were spent in retail in the crafts and fabric department.


She was a member of St. Anskar’s Episcopal Church and was active with the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. During her time with the Boy Scouts she had earned the Den Leader Training award, Den Leader Coach award, Cub Scout award, Tiger Group Organizer award, Cub Masters Key, Distinguished Commissioners Service award, Doctorate of Commissioners Science award, District Award of Merit and her Silver Beaver award. In addition, Sue was given recognition for Day Camp Coordinator, District Coordinator, District Committee, District Program Director and Veteran Scout Recognition of 40 years. She was an Avon Rep of 40+ years and enjoyed crafts such as sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking, and even owned Stitches by Sue. She was involved with the Rockford Doll Club and Precious Moments Club where she served as the treasurer for many years.


She is survived by her children, Michael Morris, Andrew (DeAnna) Morris, Robert Morris, Katherine (Patrick) O’Keeffe, and Victoria (Nicholas) Sughroue; grandchildren, Rylee Morris, MaKayla Morris, Noah Morris, Caitlyn O’Keeffe, William O’Keeffe, and Niles Sughroue. She is predeceased by her parents, Elmer and Erna, husband, William and numerous Aunts and Uncles.


The family would like to give a thank you to the devoted caregivers at Wesley Willows.


Visitation will be on Friday, December 8, 2023, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, 1860 S. Mulford Road, Rockford, IL 61108. A funeral service will be on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anskar’s Episcopal Church, 4801 Spring Creek Road, Rockford, IL 61114. A visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 – 9:45 a.m. Burial will be in Willwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Blackhawk Area Council Wanchanagi District Cub Scout Summer Day Camp Program.
