Tommy “Tom” Roderick, 88, loving husband of 62 years, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a friend to many, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, with the family at his side. He was born on August 20, 1935, in Rockford, the son of Charles and Eleanor Roderick. He married Danuta “Donna” Sawicki on October 6, 1962, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He worked at Barber Colman as a Tool and Die Maker for 12 years and retired from the Rockford Park District after 34 years. Tom was a “Jack of all trades”. If it could be fixed, it did not get thrown away. He was a very involved member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, the finance committee, a member of the Polish Fest committee and an usher for 45 years. He was an Army veteran serving for 3 years overseas during the Lebanon, Cuban and Berlin Crisis and remained in the reserves for 3 additional years. Tom was always an involved father with his children and never missed any of their activities. He would text his children every morning to keep them informed about his day. He loved fishing and enjoyed time with friends, having fun and telling jokes. Most of all he loved his family. His wife, children and grandchildren were always his priority.
Survived by his loving wife, Donna; his daughter, Terrie (Frank) Laudicina of Dekalb, his son, Jeff (Rebecca) of Caledonia and his daughter, Kimberly (Dave) Niemiec of Dundee; his grandchildren, Sara, Vincent (Riley), Joey, Abigail (Nick), Matthew, Aryanna, Amanda and Georgiana; his great grandson, Frankie. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles Jr. “Chucky”, and his granddaughter, Katherine.
