Vincenzo Costa

Vincenzo Costa, age 104, of Rockford, IL, passed away on Thursday, May 15, 2025. 

Vincenzo was born in Ucria, Sicily on February 26, 1921, the son of Sebastiano and Rosalia (Pinzone) Costa. He married Antonina "Mela" Barone in Ucria, Sicily on October 5, 1950. After moving to the United States, Vincenzo worked as a brick layer and was a highly skilled mason worker for many years before retiring. He was devoted to his faith as a longtime member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. Vincenzo was an innovative and intelligent man who could accomplish anything he set his mind to. He enjoyed playing cards, listening to music and playing his guitar and mandolin. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family, especially his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Vincenzo will be dearly missed. 

Surviving relatives include his dear children, Carmelina (Jim) Truninger, Sebastiano Costa, Silvana (Scott) Hilger and Saro (Robin) Costa; grandchildren, Robert Tempin, Michael (Kristin) Giamalva, Sebastian Costa Jr., Daniel Tempin, Greg (Andrea) Giamalva, Jason (Ashley) Tempin, Vince Costa, Antonina (Sean) Croke, Domenica Hilger (Jesse Brewer), Cassandra Costa, Charles Hilger (Autumn Gray) and Adriana Costa (Sam Van Rheeden); great-grandchildren, Ashley, Ian, Breanne, Wesley, Lacy, Jack, Luke, Carmelo, Hunter, Tucker, Theodore, Lincoln, Charlotte, Eleanora, Ember, Victoria and soon to arrive, baby Luca. Vincenzo is also survived by one brother, Rosario Costa of Zafferana, Sicily; sisters-in-law, Rosina Orifici and Amelia Barone; brothers-in-law, Aldo (Beth) Barone and Frank (Marie) Barone; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and special neighbors, Paz and Cristina. Vincenzo is predeceased by his parents, Sebastiano and Rosalia Costa; wife, Antonina "Mela" Costa; daughter, Rosalia Tempin and son-in-law, Brian Tempin.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:30 p.m. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. at Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Rd. Rockford, IL 61108. Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1010 Ferguson St. Rockford, IL 61102. Entombment will conclude in Calvary Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Vincenzo's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or St. Anthony's Orphanage of Italy.
