Winona Joyce Himstedt, 83
Winona J. Himstedt, formerly of Eddyville, KY, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 18, 2015 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford, IL. She was born in Decatur, IL on March 24, 1932 to parents Floyd and Mae (Brule) Walton. She married Roger P. Himstedt on January 6, 1951. Following his service in the Korean War, Winona and Roger began a partnership in farming that would continue for more than 40 years. This part of their journey began in Harristown, IL and continued in Goose Lake Township, IL before their final stop in Big Rock, IL. Winona was an avid vegetable gardener at every stop. She often welcomed family and friends at her dinner table with open arms and an overflowing bounty of food which included homemade pies and molasses cookies. As a member of the New Hope Presbyterian Church in Coal City, IL, she was a very active leader in Sunday school and Women’s groups. After retiring from farming in 1995 they relocated near Eddyville, KY. Currently, she was a member of the Cadiz Christian Church in Cadiz, KY.
Survivors include son, Mike (Carol) Himstedt, Waterloo, IL; daughters, Susan (Craig) Corriveau, Plainfield, IL, Pam (Vann) Rossmiller, Belvidere, IL and Judy (Greg) Greiter, Belvidere, IL; grandchildren, Brian (Melissa), Kristi (Mark), Matthew (Adrienne), Lindsay, Garth (Anne), Cameron and Reed; great grandchildren, Josh, AJ, Cruz, Salome, Vann, Jai, Mateo, and Abigail; siblings, Harold (Mary) Walton, Devonna Snow, Kathleen Woods, Jeanine Shively, June (Chuck) Fried, Ken (Peppi) Walton, Rod Walton; sisters-in-law, Jenine Scollon and Janice (Herb) Rand; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by husband Roger, brother Donald and brothers-in-law, Cecil Snow & Wilbur Himstedt.
A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Grace United Methodist Church in Rockford, IL at 11:00 with a visitation beginning at 10:00. Memorials may be given to Grace United Methodist Church of Rockford in Winona’s name. Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, assisted the family.
